22 schemes on water storage to use water for agriculture, livestock and domestic use including but not limited to constructing of spring water tanks, rain water storage tanks, stock water ponds for livestock; geo-membrane irrig etc have been identified and civil work has initiated with 20% community contribution

6460 poultry birds were distributed in 34 villages for promoting sustainable livelihood. Each beneficiary received 10 poultry birds.

3 informal and decentralized agriculture implementing centers have been developed at the community level with the facilities of tractors, threashers, boozers, plough, water tanks, water pumps, seed bank etc at Mansehra and Abbottabad under the project of DLG/PIDSA.

105 women Beneficieries in Mansehra and Abbottabad were trained and provided seeds for kitchen gardening activities as a means of greater social and economic empowerment under the DLG/PIDSA project

Seminar on Child Labor held at Press Club Peshawar on June, 12, 2011. In her welcome address CE, DLG Ms. Meraj H. Khan said a large number of children in school going were working at workshop, hotels, brick kilns or doing other petty jobs like shoe shining etc. She further said joint efforts by the government, NGOs and civil society were needed to overcome the problem of child labor Speakers of the seminar including Faqir Hussain President of PPP (S) labor wing, Abdul Rauf Rohaila president Rotary Club, Muhammad Tahir of Hayatabat Model School, Rabia Anees education department, Zahoor Ahmed Former Director Labor, and Director Labour Mr. Irfan Ullah called for collective efforts to end child labor and ensure children’s rights including bringing them to schools.

As per the demand of the Kandao valley community more Technical Courses has been added in the program, now a batch of Rewinding course comprising 10 students is in progress at KZKIL Jhanda Swabi

Eight batch of Electrician course has been started at KZKIL Jhanda Swabi, there are 12 students, the course has been commenced from April 18, 2011.

The 1st books exhibition of 2011 was held in DLG/KZKIL Jhanda Swabi on January 31, 2011. A wide range of very high quality and informative books were on display with the aim to strengthen the reading habits of students in this area by developing libraries in educational institutions. This time again only Government schools were informed while some institutions in the private and some non-profits sector also received the gift of books. More then 35 Govt schools in Swabi area attended the exhibition and selected books for their libraries. The exhibition was opened by Ms. Meraj H. Khan CE, DLG. Besides the schools, DLG youth groups, representatives from the media and civil society also visited the exhibition and lauded the efforts of Asia Foundation Islamabad and De Laas Gul in bringing such valuable books to the deprived students of this trouble-stricken area.

DLG conducted First Aid Training in Khan Zaman Khan Institute of learning (KZKIL) Jhanda Swabi, on January 13, 2011 with the help of Workers Education Research and Welfare Society (WERWS). In which the teachers of Government schools and members of DLG Youth Association (DYA) from the surrounding villages participated. First Aid Kits along with Certificates were distributed among the trainees to help the community in future.

Background

Founded in 1976, De Laas Gul (DLG) is one of the leading Non-Profit Development Organizations of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (NWFP), with deep trenched and far reaching social interventions in the region. Head quartered in Peshawar, DLG is implementing a human resource development program at the grass roots level that is based on three essential requisites of social advancement and poverty alleviation i.e. education, skills enhancement and social awareness.

Through its program, DLG is reaching out to thousands of beneficiaries in the region, especially under privileged women and children who constitute our essential target group.Taking a holistic approach towards social development, the broader goal of the DLG program is to promote whole communities while extending support to selected target groups.

Our Mission

To address the socio-economic and political empowerment of the community at large, particularly women and children, they being the weaker and vulnerable segments of society.

Objectives

  1. Promote and provide education, skills training and enterprise development services, especially for women and children
  2. Raise awareness and acceptance of human rights in its different forms
  3. To implement a cohesive programme of human resources development with a focus on education, skill training and awareness raising about health issues.
  4. To raise awareness about rights among marginalized communities through a strong advocacy programme.
  5. To implement a comprehensive programme of evaluation policies to assist public sector institutions to respond to the needs of the marginalized people.
